Why I Bought an Electric Standing Desk — And Why I Use It Every Day
Updated: Sep 29

I spend a ridiculous amount of time at a computer.
I work a desk job for about 8–9 hours a day, and once my 9–5 is over, I’m usually still at my computer. Between creating content, working on my blog, editing videos, and playing video games, sitting at a traditional desk all day—and then sitting there some more—was getting old.
That’s why I decided to buy an electric standing desk, and it has easily become one of the most-used things in my home office.
Why I Wanted a Standing Desk
During my regular workday, I typically spend around 6–7 hours standing instead of sitting the entire shift.
What I really love, though, is having the choice.
If I want to stand while answering emails or working, I can. If my feet need a break, I press a button and lower the desk back down. Later, when I’m editing a video or gaming, I can adjust it again depending on what feels comfortable.
And there is actually some science behind the idea.
A 2025 systematic review found that sit-stand desk interventions helped office workers reduce their sitting time during the workday by roughly 48–88 minutes per day, depending on how long the desks had been used.
Standing also burns slightly more energy than sitting. One study of people doing computer work found standing burned about 8 additional calories per hour compared with sitting.
That doesn’t mean standing at a desk replaces exercise—not even close. The bigger benefit is simply breaking up long periods of sitting and changing positions throughout the day.
The CDC’s NIOSH also recommends varying your posture and periodically standing as a break from prolonged sitting. At the same time, prolonged standing can cause discomfort too, so the goal isn’t necessarily to stand motionless for eight hours straight. Movement and changing positions are the important part.
Why I Love THIS Desk
I went with the Huuger 47 x 24 Electric Standing Desk, and there are a few features that make it especially convenient for the amount of time I spend at my computer.
Electric height adjustment: The desk easily switches between sitting and standing height.
3 memory presets: Instead of trying to find the perfect height every time, I can save my preferred positions and switch with one touch.
Built-in power: It includes AC outlets, USB, and USB-C charging, which is extremely convenient when your desk is full of computers, monitors, chargers, lights, and content-creation equipment.
Cable management: Anything that helps control the cord disaster happening underneath my desk is a win.
47 x 24-inch workspace: There’s enough room for my current computer setup without the desk completely taking over the room.
Steel frame: The sturdy frame was important to me considering I use this desk for work, content creation, and gaming...
Would I Buy It Again?
Absolutely.
Actually, once we purchase a new house, I already plan on upgrading to a larger L-shaped electric standing desk. https://amzn.to/4y8MVIy

Right now, space is limited, so my work setup and personal setup basically have to live together. I currently have one monitor that is shared between my 9–5 job and everything I do personally—content creation, blogging, editing, and gaming.
Eventually, I want an L-shaped desk so I can create two separate spaces: one side for work and one side for my personal life.
I love working from home, but when your work computer is sitting in the exact same place where you spend your free time, it can be hard to mentally separate “work mode” from “I’m done for the day.”
Having two dedicated sections would let me shut down my work setup at the end of my shift, turn to the other side of the desk, and officially be in my own space again.
So yes—I would absolutely buy an electric standing desk again. In fact, I already know my next desk will be an even bigger version of the one I have now.
When you consider how many hours I spend at a computer every week, this wasn’t just another random office purchase. I use this desk every single day.
For anyone who works from home—or just spends way too much time in front of a computer like I do—an electric standing desk is one of those upgrades that can completely change how your workspace feels.
And if I’m going to spend the majority of my life attached to a computer, I might as well make the setup work for me.
